To report a crime, or for immediate police assistance, contact your local RCMP detachment or the police service in your area.

Crime in progress

If the crime is still in progress, phone 911.

Crime already committed or for suspicious activities

If the crime has already been committed or if you are suspicious of activities in your neighbourhood, phone the police service’s non-emergency number.

How to report a crime

If you are a witness or victim of crime:

  • Stay calm.
  • If you have time, write down details of the crime.
  • Call the police.
  • Let the operator ask questions.
  • Answer all the questions clearly and as completely as possible.
  • At the end of the call, ensure you get a file reference number. Note the number on a piece of paper and keep it in a safe place for the follow up investigation or for insurance purposes.
